Gym class: a commitment you won't want to give up

July 22, 2026

Every week in Morges, people come together to move and connect. Guided by the expert support of Anne-Marie Collin, these adapted gymnastics sessions have become a cherished ritual for those with hearing loss.

Far from typical gyms where loud music drowns out voices and instructions are shouted out, the atmosphere here is calm and focused. These classes, largely funded by our foundation, are specifically designed to meet the needs of senior men and women with hearing impairments.

The golden rule? "Take your time," says Anne-Marie Collin. "I explain the movement first while facing the group so they can lip-read. Once the exercise begins, I check in with each person individually." With a maximum of 10 participants, she can ensure every exercise is performed correctly.

Movement for a better quality of life

The sessions combine strengthening, coordination, balance, and flexibility exercises using balls, resistance bands, and even Pilates rings. "We often start seated to catch our breath after arriving, then alternate between standing and floor activities," Anne-Marie explains.

The impact goes beyond just an hour of exercise. "Many have told me that these classes have brought a major change to their lives. First, by improving their mobility and balance, they gain confidence. The class also creates a momentum that encourages them to take better care of themselves, and they continue the activity between sessions," Anne-Marie adds.

The icing on the cake: the time spent chatting before and after the session. "Exercising opens up conversation," notes Anne-Marie. People talk about themselves and their health, offering and receiving support. They exchange advice, share experiences, and pass on tips for staying in shape.

See you in August

It is no surprise that some participants were reluctant to start the summer break, as the weekly session has become such a cornerstone of their lives. But Anne-Marie knows her participants won't be sitting idle until the fall. They will continue on their own to stay active, proving that the course has fulfilled its mission: making movement a natural and essential part of life. The reunion in the fall will be all the warmer for it.
