For this 25th edition, FoRom écoute chose to place the voices of those directly affected at the heart of the conversation. The traditional conference transformed into a living laboratory of ideas, where individual experiences became a collective resource, sparking palpable energy. Here is a look back at a day where inclusion was experienced, shared, and celebrated.
Around a hundred people with hearing loss gathered on May 30th for the annual FoRom écoute conference. The theme? Real, tangible inclusion that must be lived everywhere: in social, family, professional, cultural, athletic, and civic life.
More stories, more empowerment
As Laurent Huguenin highlighted in his welcome address: "Our role is not to do things for you, but to provide you with the tools, the guidance, and above all, the opportunity to take back control of your own journey."
To put this vision into action, the 2026 format gave a prominent place to the stories of people with hearing loss. Far from being accounts focused on difficulties, these presentations were designed as catalysts for action. FromAnne and Sylviane, who shared their journey toward acceptance and turning "over-adaptation" into a strength, to Jean-Bernard, a pioneer in community and professional advocacy, to the late but illuminating revelations of Marlène and Caroline: each story resonated as proof that it is possible to "take charge" of your life.
The cross-interview sessions allowed for a dialogue between generations and backgrounds, bringing practical advice to the surface: daring to ask for accommodations, choosing the right audiologist, using technology (such as Auracast, tested live during the conference under the supervision of our audiology consultant), or simply wearing your disability visibly, with accessories to match.
A unique alchemy for discussing philosophy
Inclusion is, of course, not limited to tools. It also involves how others perceive us and the work we do on ourselves. To address this dimension, philosopher and writer Alexandre Jollien surprised us by sharing the stage with Bernard Campan, the actor and friend with whom he filmed Beautiful Minds.
The two partners delivered a dialogue that was both profound and lively, punctuated by anecdotes and humor, to illustrate how to "become yourself" and turn your differences into a source of connection. This unexpected duo captured the spirit of the day: joyful and shared inclusion.
Energy looking toward the future
The initial feedback was unanimous: the goal was achieved. Attendees left with a fresh sense of inspiration. "A big thank you for this day, rich in experiences!" exclaimed one of the participants who spoke during the panels. Another participant agreed: "The experiences and sharing were rich and relevant. I really enjoyed attending."
There was plenty of emotion as well: "I felt a wide range of emotions hearing these poignant testimonies and the precious words of our national philosopher. Thanks again for organizing this wonderful meeting."
Looking ahead to next year
